County Limerick at its highest
Galtymore gives Limerick its highest ground and also represents Tipperary. It is the highest summit in the Galty range, an inland mountain landscape with approaches from different sides. Limerick's official visitor site describes the King's Yard outing as a demanding walk over track and open mountain. That is a useful reminder to choose a particular approach and assess it on its own terms, rather than planning only around a county-list height.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Consult Limerick's current Galtymore information if considering the King's Yard approach. It describes sustained steep sections and no clear trail markings, and recommends the walk for experienced hikers. Confirm current arrangements with the starting-point operator and use Discovery Sheet 74 or an equivalent detailed map. Before recording both counties, understand the summit boundary: High Point Ireland groups the county tops but says they are not perfectly shared on the ground.
