Begin with the landscape you want to see.
Mullaghmeen in Westmeath, Slieve na Calliagh in Meath and Corn Hill in Longford sit at the lower end of the county elevation list. Their settings offer a different sort of outing from the high mountains. Read the county pages and their operator links to decide what suits your group; this site does not grade them as universally easy or accessible.
A forest trail is not always the high-point route.
A signed recreation loop may go around a hill without visiting its exact top. Check the operator’s map and a detailed map together. At a heritage site, distinguish the hill visit from access to a monument: closures, gates and conservation rules may apply separately.
Build experience at your own pace.
The useful question is whether the route and conditions fit the people walking today. Start with a manageable plan, practise navigation and turn back when necessary. A guided outing or local club can help you learn without treating a county tick as the only goal.
