County Westmeath at its highest
Mullaghmeen is County Westmeath's high point and the lowest county-top height in this directory. Its setting is a forest landscape rather than the open mountains that dominate many challenge photographs. Coillte describes an extensive woodland trail network and identifies a summit trail within it. That gives this county record its own character: a visit can combine the specific high point with a closer look at the trees and the area's former land use.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Use Coillte's current Mullaghmeen page and trail map to choose the summit trail rather than another woodland loop. The operator distinguishes several walks, including a multi-access route; do not assume that every trail has the same surface or reaches the high point. Check current forestry and access-road notices before travelling. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 41 for the hill, and your record should identify the actual summit visit rather than simply the forest entrance.
