County Longford at its highest

Corn Hill is County Longford's high point, also known as Cairn Hill or Carn Clonhugh. Visit Longford places it between Drumlish and Ballinalee in the parish of Killoe. The hill connects the county challenge with archaeological remains as well as a walking destination: the summit has two cairns. It is a place to record the landscape and its history carefully, with respect for the monuments rather than a hurried photograph and tick.

Before you go

Plan your visit

Use Visit Longford's current Corn Hill trail information before travelling. It describes mixed stone-path and dirt-track terrain with some steep sections, so the low listed height should not be read as a surfaced stroll. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 34. Follow the designated walking route and leave cairn stones in place. The county council's walking brochure also says the telecommunications mast must not be accessed; keep your visit to the walking area.

Use a current detailed map, check weather and access, and choose a route within your experience. Plan a hill day →
