County Waterford at its highest
Knockmealdown is the high point of County Waterford and the highest summit in the mountain range that carries its name. It brings the county challenge to a different upland group from Waterford's better-known Comeragh outings. The similar names can make regional browsing confusing: a walk somewhere in the Knockmealdowns is not automatically an ascent of Knockmealdown itself. Check the exact summit before deciding that a route matches your county objective.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Locate Knockmealdown at S058084 on a detailed map before selecting an approach. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 74. Use the range name for regional research, then check that the actual route reaches the 793m summit and provides a suitable return. Current trailhead, parking and land-access details were not independently verified for this profile; obtain those locally and do not treat a general tourism description of the mountains as a complete walking plan.
