County Dublin at its highest
Kippure is the high point of traditional County Dublin, within the wider Dublin–Wicklow uplands. The county challenge here reaches beyond familiar woodland outings into a mountain landscape on the edge of the capital. High Point Ireland also identifies it as South Dublin County Council's highest point. Keep the traditional county objective clear when browsing modern administrative areas or nearby walks: the challenge is about the specified summit, not simply reaching any Dublin mountain.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Choose a map that covers Kippure and your full approach, including the return. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 56, the EastWest Dublin and North Wicklow map and Harvey's Wicklow Mountains map. The summit grid reference is O116155; use it to confirm the place you are researching, not as a route. Check current access information for your intended starting point and distinguish local recreation trails from a complete Kippure summit outing.
