County Cork at its highest
Knockboy is the highest summit in County Cork and the Shehy Mountains. It sits in the mountainous Cork–Kerry border landscape associated with Priest's Leap, giving Cork's county challenge a very different setting from its coast and city. The pass and the county summit are distinct features. Enjoying the mountain road or its views can be part of a visit to the area, while reaching Knockboy calls for a separate walking plan.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Plan the approach as carefully as the walk. Discover Ireland describes the Priest's Leap road as steep, narrow and single lane, with caution needed and livestock possible along the roadside. Do not assume that a map pin for the pass provides parking or summit access. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 85 for Knockboy. Confirm the walking approach, landowner arrangements and a suitable place to leave a vehicle before using this mountain road.
